Brainspotting

What is Brainspotting?

Most therapists rely on talk therapy and what is missing is the brain - body connection.

Brainspotting is a powerful and amazing body based psychotherapy which I am very excited to integrate in to my practice.

It works by identifying, processing and releasing core neurophysiological sources of emotional, body pain, trauma, dissociation and a variety of challenging and difficult symptoms.

Trauma overwhelms the brains processing ability, leaving pieces of unprocessed experiences stuck in time. Brainspotting enable clients to quickly and effectively process through deep brain sources of emotional, somatic and performance problems.

The opposite of trauma is connection.

If you feel disconnect, resentment, resistance in any area of your life, chances are at some point in time you disconnected from yourself, this is trauma. You are not your experiences.

There is proven benefits for creatives to work with Brainspotting and its creator David Grand regularly does. It shifts blocks like nothing I've ever seen... so my creative buddies - get in touch, because this is transformational.

Equally I am also working with this modality in the cleft community, so do get in touch to find out more.

Many of us are unaware that we are not our patterns, we are not our limiting beliefs, we are not our internal voices. We are unaware that these formed in childhood. Even if we are aware, we can struggle to join the dots.

We learned ways of being because we needed to, to be accepted, to be loved, ultimately to feel safe and feel seen. These experiences are held in our bodies and they impact every area of our lives.

Brainspotting enables us access our body brains infinite wisdom.

It enables us to directly work with the mindbody by bypassing the frontal cortex, or thinking brain.

It works beautifully with Polyvagal theory; that the drive to avoid threat and secure safety is what guides human behaviour. When we don’t understand this we often see behaviour as ‘bad’ when it is actually a fight/flight expression; we then respond and the cycle continues through generations; disconnect.

I’m very excited to add this certification to my skill set

This modality role models a way of being, which I have to say is very very beautiful and connective in every sense of the word
