Hello lovelies!
I'm thrilled to share some exciting news with you all! On the 23rd of May, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the Simulation Network Medical Education Conference at Southampton Solent University. This event was a gathering of brilliant minds in the medical field, and I was honored to be invited to display 25 of my cleft portraits.
Walking into the conference hall, I felt a mix of excitement and nerves. It was the first time my work had been showcased in such a setting, surrounded by medical professionals who are on the front lines of healthcare innovation. The response to my portraits was overwhelming and deeply moving. Many attendees, including some wonderful individuals who have nursed cleft babies during their time in hospital, shared their personal experiences and stories with me. Their compassion and dedication to their patients were truly inspiring.
One of the highlights of the event was meeting so many innovative and passionate people. From doctors and nurses to medical educators and researchers, everyone had a unique perspective and a shared commitment to improving patient care. It was a rewarding experience to see how my art could connect with and impact such a diverse group of professionals.
I'm also delighted to share that the event was supported by the cleft charity CLAPA, which does phenomenal work for those affected by cleft. Thanks to the generosity of everyone who attended, over £500 was raised to support their vital services. It warms my heart to see how art and community can come together to make a real difference.
Looking ahead, I'm excited to announce that in 2025, I will be expanding my work with the Cleft 100 Project. My goal is to display not only the 25 portraits from the conference but also an additional 75, making a total of 100 portraits. This ambitious project aims to bring even more awareness and support to those affected by cleft conditions, and I can't wait to share more details with you as the plans come together.
Thank you all for your continued support and encouragement. This journey wouldn't be possible without you, and I'm so grateful for every opportunity to bring these stories to light through my art.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Cleft 100 Project, and as always, thank you for being part of this incredible journey with me.
With gratitude and excitement, Katie x
